Thanks to your votes and the trust shown at our last General Assembly, I have been a member of the AICT/IATC ExCom for the past few years—the first Southeast Asian. Apart from diligently attending all online and in-person ExCom meetings, I have served as the adjunct for AICT/IATC training workshops, monitoring the English-speaking group of young critics here in this beautiful Moravian capital, as well as a member of subcommittees for our statute revision and Thalia Prize. I also spoke at online forums hosted by AICT/IATC Centres of Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong. I wish to sincerely thank here all my ExCom colleagues—especially President Jeffrey Eric Jenkins and Vice-President Jean-Pierre Han—for their kind guidance and advice.
Pledging myself to your service again in this re-election, I hope to represent you to ensure that AICT/IATC becomes even more inclusive and increasingly diverse in its operation and that AICT/IATC activities reach even farther beyond cultural boundaries and hierarchy. That said, hosting an AICT/IATC Young Critics’ Workshop, Conference and ExCom meeting—the first AICT/IATC activities in Southeast Asia in its 68-year history—in the framework of a performing arts festival is already in the plan of AICT/IATC—Thailand Centre. In this culturally diverse region, contemporary arts can thrive thanks to the co-existence of and juxtaposition between tradition and modernity and yet it is lamentable that freedom of speech of its 650-million people is still lagging behind its counterparts in many other regions.

Pawit Mahasarinand has been teaching theatre and film criticism at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand’s oldest tertiary institution, since 1992 and writing performing arts reviews for The Nation newspaper, her second oldest English-language daily, since 2001. He was a critic-in-residence at Festival/Tokyo and Asia Pacific Dance Festival (Hawaii), among others. A former director of Bangkok Arts and Culture Centre (BACC), he received the insignia of chevalier de l’ordre des arts et des lettres from France’s Ministry of Culture and Communication in 2014.
