With generous support from Thailand’s Office of Contemporary Arts and Culture (OCAC), Ministry of Culture, the conference is organized by International Association of Theatre Critics (IATC)—Thailand Center and Department of Dramatic Arts, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University as a collateral event of Bangkok International Performing Arts Meeting (BIPAM) 2025, the biennial platform of gathering and exchange dedicated to Southeast Asia (www.bipam.org).
Convenors
Considering “trans-” and contemporary performance, what is the first word or question that first comes to the mind of a theatre scholar and/or critic like you? Is it transdisciplinary, transverse, transcultural, transempirical, transvalue, transgender, transmisia; or simply, transform, translate, transit and transpose?
In your practice and/or research, we are wondering if you are dealing with such a question as “How have the digital disruption and recent pandemic transformed contemporary performance and performance criticism?”
As the list of questions continues to expand, we would like to invite you to suggest others and engage in discussions with international performance scholars and critics during the sixth edition of BIPAM, with the theme “Tip of an Iceberg.”
Those interested, please send an abstract of 200 words (max), and your short bio (of no more than 80 words) to: ivan.medenica@gmail.com and saosawita@gmail.com.
Length of articles: Reading time 15 minutes (max)
Submission deadline for abstracts: February 17, 2025
Notification (of acceptance or rejection): February 21, 2025
Final date for article submission: March 7, 2025
Conference languages: English and French
Once your proposals are accepted, we kindly ask you email the complete texts (up to 5000 words) in English or French by March 7, 2025. The papers will not be read during the conference; they will be available to the participants in advance instead. Authors are expected only to present the main theses and conclusions of their papers in 15 minutes, so there is enough time left for a fruitful discussion. The conference will be held in English and French (with simultaneous interpretation) and in a hybrid mode (Zoom and on-site)—in other words, those who cannot be present in Bangkok can still participate in this conference.
All paper presenters will each be accommodated in a single room at LiT Hotel Bangkok (www.litbangkok.com) with daily breakfast, from March 12 to 15 (three nights). You will receive tickets to BIPAM performances during your stay. Airport transfers (from/to DMK/BKK airport) will also be provided by the hosts, IATC—Thailand Center and Department of Dramatic Arts, Chulalongkorn University.
Selected papers will be published in AICT/IATC’s peer-reviewed and SCOPUS-indexed online journal Critical Stages/Scènes Critiques.
