Sixteen young critics from around the world – ranging from South Korea to Belgium, Iran to Poland – took part in the IATC young critics’ seminar in Warsaw during the recent IATC world congress and the Warsaw Theatre Meeting festival, which showcases Polish productions. Working in two groups – a Francophone group monitored by experienced critic Jean-Pierre Han and an Anglophone group monitored by Mark Brown, an experienced critic from Scotland – the young critics discussed theatre and theatre criticism in their countries and held critical discussions on the productions they watched in Warsaw (including T.E.O.R.E.M.A.T , based upon Pasolini’s famous film Tereoma, by acclaimed Polish theatre company TR Warszawa). As ever with IATC young critics’ seminars, the event in Warsaw also created wonderful opportunities for critical exchange and new friendships across borders and continents.
