RE: Russian Military Invasion of Ukraine

The President and General Secretariat of the International Association of Theatre Critics (AICT-IATC) today received a message from our colleagues in the Russia Section of IATC to our colleagues in the Ukraine Section of IATC. We are distributing this message through all available channels.

“Dear colleagues and friends!

We are horrified and condemn the military aggression that is launched against Ukrainian people by this government. We express our protest by all available means – manifesting and signing petitions against the war. We feel shame and helplessness. Be safe! Let theatre always stay a space for humanity.”

One of the primary missions of the International Association of Theatre Critics is to promote global free expression, the building of bridges between cultures, and the advocacy of freedom whenever it is constrained. The IATC calls upon the Russian government to allow the free and peaceful expression of dissent within its border and to respect the borders of independent nations.

Free expression is now a rallying point for freedom-loving people throughout the globe. We strongly urge the Russian government to cease and desist from its current path of oppression.
