The #metoo phenomenon has triggered a series of reactions around the world. In Sweden, nearly one thousand actresses provided testimonies, to claim that their working conditions are still dominated by the ‘male gaze’, and often affected by a male agenda marked by sexual harassments. The actresses’ testimonies were followed by similar ones made by female singers and female dancers.
The Swedish Association of Theatre Critics issued a public statement in support of female performers:
”[…]we, the critics who see and evaluate your daily work, want to show you that we welcome your protest. We too, should improve our ways of looking through a culture of silence and sharpen our analysis of the performing arts about which we write.”
