2017 has been a year of records for the IATC. Despite various crises that affected the world, we have been successful in promoting critical thinking and cultural dialogue across all kinds of borders.
For the first time in its long history, our Association had an international event on African soil. Throughout this year we organized four different Workshops for Young Critics, with participants from all continents, Nigeria, China, India and Romania. In addition, we held three IATC Conferences on topics most relevant to our time: theatre and politics, theatre and populism, and not least, theatre and the healing power of comedy. New sections of the IATC have been inaugurated in the Arab world, Southern Africa, Asia and Europe. Details about all these events and many others are available on our new website, also launched this year. As a timely gift for theatre lovers in this festive season, a special issue of Critical Stages / Scènes Critiques (critical-stages.org) dedicated to the theme of ‘Sound and Music’ is ready to be discovered by its global readers.
We will soon begin a new year with a fresh and even richer programme, which includes the much anticipated IATC World Congress. With this in mind, we would like to wish theatre goers and colleagues around the world a joyful Holiday Season and a very Happy New Year!
