My name is Cecilia Djurberg and I would like to candidate for another term in the AITC-IATC ExCom.
I’m a Swedish journalist, theatre- and dance critic, and theatre editor of Sweden’s largest newspaper Aftonbladet. I am 50 years old, based in Stockholm, and I have a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Theatre History and Theory from Stockholm University. I speak Swedish, English, French, German, and I have studied some Spanish as well.
Since 2015 I produce a critical podcast (in Swedish), with discussions and conversations about performing arts, and I have a documented experience in publishing on different platforms, in newspaper, radio and digital media.
I have been a board member of the Swedish Association of Theatre Critics for many years. I held the presidency in our Swedish section in 2010-2016 and I am currently vice president. I was elected into the AITC-IATC ExCom at the Congress in Brno in 2024.
The role of the theatre critic, as well as the position and possibilities for theatre criticism and freedom of speech in the digital, changing realities are main topics of interest to me. I think it is crucial for us theatre critics to keep tracks with the new expressions evolving in both performing arts and in publishing, and to update our critical toolboxes accordingly.
For a worldwide organization as the AITC-IATC it is also of great importance to develop and secure our digital strategies in order to keep our international network strong, safe and well informed in these turbulent and disruptive times. In my first term as a board member of the ExCom I have participated in taking a few steps towards an updated digital structure for the AITC-IATC, and this work is something I would like to continue contributing to if I would be elected for a second term as an Excom member. I believe that my digital skills as well as my knowledge in performing arts are assets to our association.
