Call For The AICT/IATC Conference For Established Critics New Delhi, India (March 2020)

In Collaboration With

The Indian National Section Of The AICT/IATC

&

The Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards

The Indian National Section of the AICT/IATC will be hosting a conference for theatre critics in New Delhi in March 2020 in collaboration with the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META).

META is an important, Pan-Indian Theatre festival, which will be staging its 15th edition. The festival attracts hundreds of entries each year from across India in different languages, styles and forms. A Selection Committee screens the entries and selects 10 plays, which are then staged at the festival that has a jury. There are awards of excellence in the various areas of theatre specialisation at the end of the festival.

In keeping with the spirit of the festival, the conference is keen to explore contemporary practices and concerns in theatre and performance in different countries and localised contexts with regards to multiple themes such as:

– New forms of writing and staging with reference to contemporary and emerging playwrights and directors.

– The interface of new and digital technologies in live performance.

– The lesser known but significant productions of recent times.

– Theatre Companies or Individual Artistes that are making a difference in  polarised times.

– The polarisation among artistes themselves and the theatre of polarised ideologies.

The above themes are indicative and not exhaustive. The main idea is to encourage views that offer windows into contemporary theatre, concerns and challenges from localised and native observations that can be unique.

Presentations with videos and images are encouraged.

Selected participants will be delegates hosted by the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards for four nights with airport pick-up and drop-off. They will also have the opportunity to watch the performances at the festival and be part of the awards’ gala night. Other activities may be planned time permitting.

More details about the stay and the festival will be made available to selected participants. Selected participants should be able to travel to Delhi.
