The 2018 IATC Thalia prize was awarded to Hans-Ties Lehmann, the renowned German scholar and dramaturg, internationally recognized for his Postdramatisches Theater (1999), published in English in 2006 as Postdramatic Theatre. To critics from around the world, the scope of Lehmann’s writing is of utmost importance, and his concept “a discovery and a landmark” for the study of theatre and performing arts.

The prize was presented to Hans-Ties Lehmann during the IATC congress in St. Petersburg, on the15^th of November 2019. The ceremony included three non-European perspectives on “postdramatic theatre”: African, East-Asian and North-Asian respectively.
