The first IATC event on African soil was a true celebration of the spirit of our association. Organized by the indefatigable Emmanuel Dandaura (President of the Nigerian Section), it took place in the auspicious context of Lagos International Festival.
The two components of the event were a Seminar for Young Critics and a Conference dedicated to a hot theme: “Theatre, criticism and politics: where are the limits?”. The seminar was led by Margareta Sorenson (Sweden, President of IATC) and Octavian Saiu (Romania). It attracted a record number of almost 400 applicants from the African soil. Only 20 of them were selected for an intense and complex seminar, held in partnership with British Council and The Guardian Newspaper Nigeria. The conference was organized by Margareta Sorenson and Ivan Medenica (Serbia). Its keynote speaker was none other than the 2016 Thalia Laureate, Femi Osofisan. The sessions, preceded by a lively performance offered by the National Troupe of Nigeria, were hosted at the National Theatre Complex, Iganmu-Lagos.”
