Jeffrey Eric Jenkins, Professor of Theatre at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is a candidate for President of AICT-IATC. Over the past decade, Jenkins has served five terms on the IATC Executive Committee, including three terms as Vice President and eight years as Executive Editor for Critical Stages/Scènes critiques. In his current roles, Jenkins has obtained substantial funding for the journal, assisted with document translation into English, and consulted with colleagues on a wide range of topics relevant to free expression.
Jenkins believes that, in this moment of crisis and challenge, we have an unusual opportunity for IATC to consider how our organization can change and grow as we move deeper into the 21st century. His participation in AICT-IATC began in 1993, when he was invited to a Young Critics’ Seminar in Gdansk, Poland, and was mentored by Carlos Tindemans. In 1995, he was a guest critic of the Czech section of ITI and represented the U.S. at the Prague Quadrennial. As chairman of the American Theatre Critics Association, he was a delegate to the 2001 AICT-IATC World Congress in Montreal. He has also been a delegate to World Congresses in Yerevan (2010), Warsaw (2012), Beijing (2014), Belgrade (2016), and Saint Petersburg (2018). Jenkins works closely with other members of AICT-IATC to keep issues of critical and artistic interest in the forefront of international discourse. https://theatre.illinois.edu/portfolio/jeffrey-eric-jenkins/
