The International Association of Theatre Critics is offering a workshop for young theatre critics to be held from 20 to 25 May 2026 (arrival on 20 May, departure on 25 May) in Craiova, Romania, during the 2026 IATC World Congress and International Shakespeare Festival.

You may now apply for one of the 20 places offered, 10 for the French language group and 10 for the English language group. You must be a professional critic between 18 and 35 years old. All applicants are invited to send in their application form, together with a brief CV, three examples of articles published in the press, and a letter of recommendation from the head of the IATC section in your country (if your country has a national section of the IATC or is part of a regional section). All documents should be sent in a single PDF file, if possible. Please note the following:

  1. The candidates must submit their own applications, not the IATC section leaders.
  2. Participants must be fluent in English or French.
  3. Must complete the application form, with selected published work.
  4. The condition for acceptance to the workshop is a commitment to write a text that will be published in the home country, or possibly in the IATC journal, Critical Stages/Scènes Critiques.

The organizer will provide accommodation for five nights, theatre tickets, meals and daily sessions led by an experienced critic who will engage conversations about critical perspectives on productions seen. Accommodation is provided by the festival organizers and may include a shared rooms with a person of the same gender. Participants should be aware that Bucharest is likely the preferred air terminal for transfer to Craiova. We are told that there are some regional air possibilities through Craiova.

* Transportation to Bucharest or Craiova airports is not provided.

Applications will be accepted until 15 February 2026 and should be sent to IATC Training Workshops Director, Jean Pierre Han: jp.han@free.fr. A final list of all selected participants will be announced as soon as possible, to allow everyone to make their travel arrangements.

The names of the instructors/critics for the French and English groups will be communicated to you as soon as possible.

NB: Priority will be given to applications from candidates who have not yet benefited from this type of workshop.
